Byte Hopper

Privacy Policy

Updated October 23, 2026 (world leaderboard)

The short version

  • No account, no email, no password. You can play without sending anything anywhere.
  • The world leaderboard is optional. If you join, we keep only your nickname, your country flag and your scores. Everyone who plays can see them.
  • Your progress stays on your device. Bits, robots and upgrades never leave it.
  • No ads, no tracking and no in-app purchases. We never sell or share your information.

Byte Hopper is an arcade game made by Auvler Systems, based in Ontario, California (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information Byte Hopper handles. It applies to the Byte Hopper app and to the Byte Hopper pages on auvler.com.

1. What stays on your device

Byte Hopper doesn't use your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location or clipboard.

2. The world leaderboard (optional)

The first time you open the game you can pick a nickname to compete with other players, or skip it. If you skip it, nothing in this section applies to you. If you join, we keep on our server:

We use this information only to run the leaderboard and keep it fair. You can change your nickname, or delete all of it right away, in Settings → World leaderboard → Delete my online data. Copies in our encrypted backups are deleted within 12 months.

3. What we don't collect

We don't collect your name, email, contacts, precise location, photos or identifiers for advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. We don't sell or share any information, and we don't use it for ads.

4. Where it's stored and who helps us

The leaderboard runs on our own server in California. Connections go through Cloudflare, which protects and delivers our site and service. Server backups are encrypted before they're stored with Backblaze. To receive small updates without a new download from the App Store, the app also checks Expo's update service (run by 650 Industries, Inc.) when it opens; that shares basic technical information such as your IP address, platform and app version, but not your progress or scores.

5. This website

These pages are served through Cloudflare and our own server. Like any website, they record basic technical information when you visit (IP address, date and time, the page requested) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are deleted on a rolling basis. The pages use fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to load them. We don't use cookies or analytics on these pages. If you play the web version, your progress is kept in your browser's local storage on your computer.

6. Email

If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply. We keep them as long as needed to help you.

7. Children

Byte Hopper is for players of all ages. The game works fully without the leaderboard, there are no chats, ads, links to social networks or anything to buy, and nicknames go through a word filter and can be reported. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; a nickname and a flag are all the leaderboard asks for. If you believe a child shared personal information in a nickname, write to us and we'll remove it.

8. Your rights

You can see, change or delete your leaderboard data in the app at any time. If you want a copy of it, or want us to delete it for you, email us. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA; we don't sell or share personal information.

9. Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If Byte Hopper ever starts collecting other information, we'll explain it here and in the app before it happens.
